Matthew Kiroff

Founder of Red River Climbing Guides and a Red River Gorge local, Matt has been exploring and helping others explore the hills and hollers of the Daniel Boone National Forest for over 20 years. He has been professionally practicing as a climbing instructor, photographer, & route developer in the Red since 2014.

At a young age, he discovered the power of rock climbing to physically and intellectually vitalize him while deepening his connection with nature and he has made it his mission to share this passion with all of you! With that goal in mind, he has spent more than half his life gathering the skills, certifications and knowledge necessary to allow him to safely climb & teach single pitch climbing all over the planet. He is certified by all necessary standardizing bodies in all safety and wilderness survival/first aid skills necessary to keep you and your loved ones safe in the single pitch environment of the Red River Gorge, so you can focus on making memories and having a great time!  he believes in the therapeutic capacity of climbing so much, that in the coming year he is working on launching a non-profit community outreach program that will offer local under-privileged youth a chance to participate in the sport that is growing right in their backyards, and hopefully enabling their discovery of the life changing opportunities that it can offer. It’s an Olympic sport now after all!

Matthew enjoys working with all ages and skill levels, having coached kids as young as 4 years old as well as adults in the prime of their 70s, from beginners that have never laced up a climbing shoe to athletes competing at the national level. Whether you are working on a gold medal or just trying to have a good time, Matt is the climbing instructor that will help you get there!

Ian Oddo

Hey there! My name is Ian Oddo, and I am psyched to guide with Red River Climbing Guides!

I grew up around Cleveland, Ohio and fell for climbing (haha pun!) a few years back, shortly after I finished my degree in education. Climbing has become such an important part of my life and has influenced me a great deal. As is the case with all of my favorite things in life, the best way for me to engage with those things is to share them with others! My background in teaching and my passion for sharing knowledge informs my entire approach to guiding.

Among the many varied aspects to climbing, knowledge of technical systems and best practices is central to the way I approach both climbing and guiding. I love seeing climbers of all levels of experience learn something new and exciting: movement, technical skills, fitness, confidence, even quality-of-life tips. Successfully completing rigorous Single Pitch Instructor training with the AMGA has opened up an amazing opportunity for me to combine my professional expertise as a teacher with my knowledge of and passion for climbing.

When I’m not rock climbing, I enjoy making really good coffee, watching people play video games, and indulging in sci-fi/fantasy fiction. My favorite rock climb is Eye of the Needle, and my favorite not-rock-climbing attraction in the Red is Copperas Falls. I look forward to sharing the wonderful world of climbing with you!

Let's go climbing!
