Top-Rope Climbing

Beginner-Intermediate
Want to get outside & experience rock climbing on the cliffs of the Red River Gorge? In this course our certified rock climbing guide will set up routes using a top rope system. This system lets everyone in your group climb to their hearts' content in a safe environment without any prior knowledge of how to use the safety equipment. We handle all the technical stuff, so you can focus on climbing & having a good time!

Traditional Climbing

Beginner-Advanced
Traditional or 'trad' climbing involves specially designed gear that climbers place into fissures as they climb (in place of pre-drilled bolts) to safely protect a fall. This course will introduce you to that gear & the skills you need for this type of climbing. You will learn about how the gear functions & how to place it correctly, trad climbing techniques (i.e. different types of hand placements), traditional anchor building, top belaying, 3-1 hauls, & rappelling. This course will get you on your way to traditional climbing proficiency in no time!

Lead Climbing

Intermediate
This course is designed for the climber who has some experience climbing indoors or outdoors & would like to begin leading routes from the ground up. During this course we will discuss gear, crag safety, clipping techniques, & cleaning anchors & gear. There is also a lead belaying portion of the day where we will practice feeding rope, giving soft catches, lowering to clean, & climber/belayer communication.

Gym To Crag

Beginner-Intermediate
Looking to get outside but not quite sure you have the best guidebook or enough quickdraws? We can help! The goal of this course is to introduce you to the necessary skills & equipment that are needed for a fun and safe day at the crag. We go over basic gear , climbing & clipping techniques, rope management, belaying, outdoor climbing safety, crag etiquette & sport anchor setup & cleaning. For this course to be most effective, it is best if participants have had some indoor top-rope or lead climbing experience.
